Real experiences from real travelers
The private tour was absolutely worth it. Our guide Ken was knowledgeable and flexible. We got lucky with the weather and saw Fuji clearly from Lake Kawaguchi. The BBQ lunch was a highlight!
Took the bus tour to 5th Station and Gotemba outlets. Long day but very well organized. The guide spoke good English and kept us on schedule. Highly recommended for first timers.
We went in January and the visibility was perfect! Fuji was covered in snow. Just be warned it is much colder than Tokyo, so bring a heavy coat. The ice cave was slippery but cool.
Booked the classic day tour. The Chureito Pagoda climb was tough (400 steps!) but the view is exactly like the postcards. Bus was comfortable with WiFi.
Unfortunately Fuji was hiding behind clouds, which we knew was a risk in September. However, the tour guide made up for it with great stories and a fun visit to Oshino Hakkai village.
The private driver was punctual and the car was immaculate. We customized our itinerary to visit the sake brewery and the ropeway. Perfect for our family of 4.
February is the best time! We had crystal clear blue skies. The strawberry picking add-on was delicious. A long day of driving but comfortable.
Traffic was heavy getting back to Tokyo due to Obon holidays, but the tour itself was great. 5th Station was nice and cool compared to the city heat.
Everything you need to know for your journey
Winter (November to February) offers the highest chance of clear visibility due to dry air. Summer months often have hazy or cloudy views, though early mornings can still be clear.
It is unlikely. Mt. Fuji weather is independent but often correlated with Tokyo. If it's raining in the city, the mountain is likely obscured by clouds. Check the forecast for Fujikawaguchiko specifically.
Tours usually run rain or shine. If visibility is poor, guides often focus more on cultural activities like shrines, museums, or the ice caves. Refunds are generally not given for poor visibility unless the operator cancels the tour.
This depends on the specific package. Some tours include a Japanese-style set lunch or buffet, while others give you free time to buy your own lunch at highway stops or local restaurants. Check the 'What's Included' section.
There are 398 steps to reach the famous viewing deck. It takes about 15-20 minutes for an average person. There is also a winding ramp available for a gentler ascent.
Dress in layers. The temperature at Mt. Fuji 5th Station is typically 10-15°C (18-27°F) lower than in Tokyo. In winter, heavy coats, gloves, and scarves are essential.
Private tours usually include door-to-door hotel pickup. Group bus tours typically have designated meeting points at major hubs like Shinjuku Station or Tokyo Station, though some offer select hotel pickups.
No. The Subaru Line road to the 5th Station can be closed due to heavy snow in winter or typhoons in summer. In these cases, tours will visit alternative lower-elevation spots like the Fuji Visitor Center.
Most large tour buses have restrooms, but it's not guaranteed. However, all tours make frequent stops at highway service areas (Michi-no-Eki) which have clean, modern restroom facilities.
